April elections in Sudan

02-Jul-2010 Presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Sudan from 11-13 April 2010 to elect the president and the National Assembly of Sudan. The elections will bring to an end the CPA created transitional government which began when the decades-long SPLM/A fought civil war ended in 2005.

The elections will simultaneously take place in Southern Sudan for the top job in the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) and for Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA). The ten states in Southern Sudan and sixteen states in the northern Sudan are also gearing up to fulfill their position of governors and parliaments.

The awaited elections will be the first of its kind since 1986 when partial elections were held mostly in Northern Sudan. Various parties are now participating in these elections because CPA brought that democratic atmosphere. Campaigns are underway and influencing of support is every political party’s priority. It is highly anticipated that it will be a close race
